Bird's Eye Views

1/7/2021

Picture
After a not seeing family for the past year due to COVID-19, I made the decision that I needed to finally travel and get home for the holidays.  On both legs of the flight, out and then back into Seattle, I was treated to my dream airplane window views - volcanoes and mountain ranges (plus beautiful clouds) as far as the eye can see.
I can't help that I keep talking about volcanoes! Over the summer of 2020, I hiked on or very near four of the Washington volcanoes. But this time, the airplane view gave a different perspective on the volcanoes - one from above and covered in snow. Check out my Ring of Fire blog post for full details on my summer 2020 volcano hikes.

Leaving Seattle

Four volcanoes across southern Washington and northern Oregon.  From left to right: Mount Adams, Mount Hood, Mount Rainier, and Mount St. Helens. During summer 2020, I hiked up to 7,800 feet on the northern facing side of Mount Rainier, shown in the photo. I also climbed to the Mount St. Helens summit at an elevation of 8,366 feet. Read my Mount Rainier Loop trip report and Mount St. Helens trip report for full details.

Could not resist the up close on Mount Rainier.  Mount Hood is visible on the horizon to the right.

Returning to Seattle

Descending into Seattle I got beautiful views of the snow covered Cascade Range plus Glacier Peak (front) and Mount Baker (back) volcanoes. During summer 2020, I hiked twice in the vicinity of Glacier Peak. I also headed up Heliotrope Ridge for an up close and personal view of Mount Baker. Read my Spider Gap-Buck Creek Pass Loop, Cady Ridge, and Heliotrope Ridge trip reports for full details.
