Mount Baker Wilderness

The Mount Baker Wilderness draws its name from the key landmark, Mount Baker, a stratovolcano that sits within the Cascade volcanic range. The Mount Baker wilderness area is just about as far north in Washington as you can go. The Mount Baker Scenic Highway (SR 542) runs roughly parallel to the Canadian boarder. North of the highway, up to the Canadian border, there is nothing else but wilderness. I have only visited the Mount Baker Wilderness twice, but both times my phone thought I was in Canada. Verizon was so helpful that it switched my phone to international calling mode and billed me $10 for the usage. Next time I need to remember to turn my phone on airplane mode to avoid the confusion. There is so much beautiful hiking in this part of remote Washington, I've barely scratched the surface.
